Review: The Sweetest Oblivion by Danielle Lori
🌶️🌶️🌶️
Content Warning
This book contains explicit sexual content, arranged marriage, drug use, murder, blackmail and violence.
He’s engaged to her sister… but watching her like she already belongs to him 😮💨🔥
If you love dangerous men, forbidden tension, and obsession that crosses every line… you NEED this one.
My Review
🔥 Let’s Talk About THAT Tension First…
Before we even get into plot, characters, anything…
The. Sexual. Tension.
This book could single-handedly turn a room into a sauna.
I’m not even kidding—I had to put my book down a few times like… ma’am, collect yourself 😮💨💋
“I swear to God, Elena, if I find out you’ve let some man touch you, I will deliver his hands to you in a box.” I swallowed. “And I do not. Fucking. Bluff.” He slammed the door behind him.
It’s not your typical slow burn… but it burns slow and beautifully, building with every glance, every argument, every moment they’re forced into the same space.
And when it hits?
Yeah… you feel it.
♠️ The Story: Mafia, Power & Forbidden Desire
We follow Elena Abelli, the sweet, obedient daughter of a powerful New York mafia family. She plays her role perfectly—because in her world, she has to.
Enter Nico Russo 😮💨
A ruthless mafia don… who just so happens to be engaged to her sister.
Yes.
Let that sink in.
From the moment they meet, there’s this undeniable pull—dangerous, forbidden, and completely unavoidable. What follows is a story of:
- Obsession
- Power
- Family loyalty
- And desire that refuses to be ignored
😈 Nico Russo (I Need One Immediately)
I’m not okay. I need a moment.
This man???
The standard has been set.
Rude. Arrogant. Slightly unhinged.
And when it comes to Elena? Completely obsessive.
“I hadn’t known it was possible to want something so much and to fear it in equal measure.”
The way he loses control over her… the way he seeks her out… the way he acts when someone crosses a line?
Sir. Goodbye.
Mafia men are elite.
💖 Elena & Nico: Power Couple Energy
These two together??
Electric.
- The banter
- The constant push and pull
- The way they challenge each other
- That hidden, mutual obsession
It’s giving:
“I shouldn’t want you… but I do anyway.” 😮💨🔥
They’re messy, intense, and completely addictive to watch unfold.
🏠 The Families, Drama & Chaos
One thing I LOVED was how much we got from the side characters and family dynamics.
Yes, they’re chaotic. Yes, they’re completely unhinged.
But the banter? The awkward run-ins? The drama?
So good.
I’m already invested in everyone:
- Gianna 👀
- Christian 👀
- Adriana 👀
Like… I need all their stories immediately.
😬 Why It’s Not a Full 5 Stars
Okay—honesty time 💋
As much as I LOVED this book…
Elena didn’t fully hit for me.
She’s kind, sweet, and very “good girl” (fitting, I know 😏), but I wanted more growth from her. We spend so much time in her head, seeing her struggle with expectations and identity…
And I just wish we got to see her fully step into herself by the end.
Her storyline felt a little too centered around the relationship, instead of her own personal evolution—and I needed just a bit more from that.
✨ The Overall Vibe
This book is:
- Intense
- Sexy
- Dramatic
- Addictive
- Full of danger and longing
It completely pulled me back into my mafia romance era, and honestly?
I’m not mad about it.
I read this in less than 24 hours and immediately started book two… so yeah, that should tell you everything 😏📚
💭 Final Thoughts
The Sweetest Oblivion is everything you want from a mafia romance—high tension, dangerous men, forbidden attraction, and a relationship that feels like it could explode at any moment.
Final verdict:
Not perfect, but insanely addictive. The tension alone is worth the read, and Nico Russo? Lives rent-free in my head now.
I get the hype. I’m in the hype.
And I’m not leaving 😮💨🔥
🌟🌟🌟🌟 4/5 Stars from this “Good Girl”
