Review: Good Spirits by B.K. Borison

This one snuck up on me in the sweetest way.

Good Spirits is what happens when a cozy Christmas romance wanders into a supernatural snow globe and decides to fall in love with the Ghost of Christmas Past. It’s soft, it’s warm, it’s emotional, and yes — it’s a slow burn with just enough spice to keep your peppermint mocha from getting cold.

I picked this up as my first B.K. Borison book and honestly? It was the perfect palate cleanser after the dark romance rabbit hole I just crawled out of. Think of it as a literary exhale: gentle, festive, and surprisingly tender.

Harriet completely charmed me. She’s basically a walking Christmas cookie — sweetness, warmth, and a little cracked around the edges if you look closely. A romantic at heart, always seeing the good in people, but carrying more loneliness than she lets on.

“You’re the first thing in a hundred years to make me feel anything at all, Harriet York, and I don’t think that’s an accident.”

And then there’s Nolan. My lonely Irish ghost boy. A man stuck between worlds, waiting for… something. Someone. His backstory? Whew. That one actually punched me in the heart. The more he opened up, the more it hurt — in that delicious, aching way only a good holiday romance can do.

“Do not mistake me for a good man. I am not here out of some misplaced sense of honor or duty. I demand your attention and I desire your affection.”

Their connection is soft and gradual and heartbreakingly beautiful. Every moment between them is tender, warm, almost glowy. Candy-cane chemistry. Ghostly yearning. Holiday magic at its finest.

Now, listen… I did want a bit more from the ending. When you give me a magical realism ghost romance, I expect at least a few answers, maybe an epilogue, maybe a crumb of clarity. Instead, the finale floated right past me like Nolan through a wall. Sweet, but light on details.

Still — this book hit all the emotional beats a holiday romance should. It’s festive, sentimental, romantic, and deeper than its cute cover suggests. I laughed, I almost cried, and I fell a little bit in love with both Harriet and Nolan.

It’s an offbeat, heartfelt twist on A Christmas Carol… without the grumpy old miser, but with a whole lot more charm.

Overall Thoughts:

Good Spirits was the perfect way to kick off my Christmas reading season — tender, magical, and a little ghostly in the cutest way. Wrapped in warmth, grief, growth, and just enough spice to keep you blushing.
