Okayyyy THIS is what I want when someone tells me a book has enemies-to-lovers 😮‍💨

Give me the hatred.
Give me the tension.
Give me the banter so sharp it feels like foreplay.

And On Wings of Blood delivered ALL of it.

The second Medra woke up in an entirely different world run by vampires, got kidnapped by a morally grey vampire prince, and found out she might be the last dragon rider alive… I was locked in. Immediately. No thoughts. Just obsession.

This world was honestly everything my fantasy-loving little heart wanted.

Political scheming and brutal hierarchy? DOUBLE ✔️

The world of Sangratha is split between the powerful highblood vampires and the blightborn humans, who are treated like absolute garbage. The tension between the classes added so much depth to the story, especially once Medra is forced into Bloodwing Academy and thrown into a world where almost everyone wants her dead.

And honestly? The plot had me INVESTED.

This book balances fantasy, romance, political intrigue, and mystery so well. It felt refreshing to read a fantasy romance where the story itself was just as addictive as the romance.

🖤 Medra Pendragon Supremacy

Medra absolutely carried this entire book on her back.

I adored her.

She’s stubborn, fierce, smart, impulsive, and refuses to let anyone break her — even when she’s surrounded by dangerous vampires constantly testing her limits. She never rolled over and became weak just because the MMC was hot, and I appreciated that SO much.

“Fucking shirtless again. Of course he was. Cocky, egotistical asshole.”

Watching her navigate this brutal new world while slowly uncovering pieces of her past had me completely hooked. I NEED more of her backstory immediately because I know there’s so much more coming in book two.

🩸 Blake Drakharrow… Unfortunately I Fear I’m Obsessed

Blake is the definition of morally grey vampire menace energy.

This man is possessive, unhinged, arrogant, emotionally damaged, and has a mouth that should honestly come with a warning label. Every time he opened his mouth I was either blushing, screaming, or ready to throw my Kindle across the room.

And the tension between him and Medra???

“She’d attacked me with murder in her heart. And yet, idiot that I was, it was her I couldn’t take my eyes off.”

ABSOLUTE TORTURE.

The slow burn in this book is SLOW slow. Like “one almost-touch has you losing your sanity” kind of slow burn. We don’t even get a ton of scenes with them together in the beginning, which honestly made it even better because every interaction felt electric.

“Maybe it’s the hair. Like the fire of a dragon, you’re impossible to tame.”

No insta-love.
No random soulmate nonsense after one dramatic stare.

Just pure enemies-to-lovers agony 😌

⚔️ Plot Over Spice (And I’m Not Mad About It)

This definitely leans more fantasy-heavy than romance-heavy, and honestly? That worked for me.

The dragons, the secrets, the academy politics, the foreshadowing, the hidden histories — it all kept me fully engaged the entire time. Every time I thought I had the story figured out, something else happened that sent me spiraling.

I also loved the found family vibes woven throughout the story. The side characters added so much warmth in the middle of all the chaos and bloodshed.

And that ENDING???

Excuse me??? We’re ending the book THERE?! 😭

💭 Final Thoughts

On Wings of Blood was addictive, dramatic, binge-worthy fantasy fun and I ate up every single second of it.

Is it the most groundbreaking fantasy ever written? No.
Did I care? Absolutely not.

Sometimes you just need a book with vampires, dragons, tension so thick you could cut it with a knife, and a morally grey man ruining your life chapter by chapter.

This gave me Fourth Wing meets Zodiac Academy with a little Draco Malfoy fanfic energy sprinkled in — and honestly that combination worked embarrassingly well on me.
