Dark, Devastating, and Impossible to Put Down
If you thought the first book in this series was dark, Voracious takes that darkness, doubles it, and then twists the knife a little deeper. Leigh Rivers really doesn’t hold back here—and honestly, I was not prepared.
A Much Darker Descent
This book is heavier, grittier, and far more emotionally brutal than the first one. Both Stacey and Kade are victims in their own ways, and the amount of pain these two carry is almost unbearable at times. Their trauma isn’t just lightly referenced—it’s woven into every chapter, every decision, every moment of silence between them.
As a mom who reads dark romance to escape the chaos of real life, this one hit me differently. Their suffering isn’t just plot-driven—it feels human. And watching two people drown alone when all you want is for them to reach for each other? My heart was a mess.
“Because I love you. I’ve been in love with you for ages – it’s been all I’ve thought about. And I keep falling more in love with you every single fucking day.”
Flashbacks That Cut and Comfort
The flashbacks in this book were the only sunlight breaking through the storm clouds. Those glimpses of who Kade and Stacey used to be—their joy, their tenderness, their connection—made the present-day agony even more gutting.
But those memories were also beautiful. They reminded me why I rooted for them so hard in the first place. Leigh Rivers uses those interwoven timelines to show how trauma grows roots, how the past bleeds into the present, and how love can be both a wound and a lifeline.
“Are you going to be my forever Freckles?”
Raw, Fast-Paced, and Emotionally Relentless Writing
The writing in Voracious is fast-paced, emotional, and completely raw. Leigh Rivers doesn’t soften the edges—she leans into the darkness, describing the characters’ suffering, longing, and intrusive, heavy thoughts with painful clarity. Some parts were genuinely hard to read, and others were just downright brutal. I would definitely recommend checking trigger warnings before diving in because this book tackles some very heavy topics without sugarcoating a thing.
A Rollercoaster of Emotions
No exaggeration: my heart clenched every single time Kade and Stacey went through hell—which was often. There were chapters where I genuinely wanted to crawl inside the book, grab these two traumatized humans by the shoulders, and force the universe to give them one damn break.
“Look at me now, my little princess. Daddy’s gone, and he’s never coming back.”
And Then… That Cliffhanger
WHAT.
WAS.
THAT.
ENDING?!
I swear Leigh Rivers looked at her readers and said, “Let’s make them suffer too.” And she succeeded. I closed the book, blinked, and said out loud, “No. Absolutely not. We are not ending it like that.”
So yes—I will be starting book three immediately. Because if Kade and Stacey do not get their happy ending after everything they’ve endured, I might actually combust.
Final Thoughts
Voracious is brutal, heartbreaking, beautifully written, and emotionally relentless. It’s trauma-heavy, character-deep, and painfully human. As a reader who loves dark romance with messy, flawed characters and complex timelines, this book scratched every itch.
Just… brace yourself.
And maybe hydrate.
And not to sound dramatic, but maybe clear your schedule for recovery.
Have fun reading, book besties 😜
