My Review

😵‍💫 Wait… WHAT Was That Ending?!

I just finished Black Thorn and I am not okay.

WHAT.
THE.
HELL.

I’m sitting here staring into space trying to process what I just read. That ending didn’t just surprise me — it detonated. I laughed in disbelief. I questioned reality. I questioned myself.

And honestly? I loved every chaotic second of it.

🌙 Gothic, Paranormal, Seductively Dark

If you’ve read J.T. Geissinger before, you already know she does not stay in one lane — and this book is proof. It feels like:

Paranormal romance 🤝 Gothic mystery 🤝 Dark, sensual tension

The opening alone hooks you:

  • A missing corpse at a funeral
  • A sinister small town
  • Generational secrets
  • A feud simmering beneath the surface

Maven Blackthorn returns to Solstice with her daughter Bea after her grandmother’s death, stepping back into the eerie Blackthorn manor — complete with witchy aunts, shadowy hallways, strange dreams, and something very wrong lurking just beneath the surface.

And waiting in the darkness?

Ronan Croft.

Brooding. Billionaire. Former lover. Father of her child.
Smoking outside the gates like he never left.

🔥 Maven & Ronan: Combustion Level — Critical

The chemistry between these two is the beating heart of the story.

Hot.
Sharp.
Volatile.

Their banter is witty and biting. Their history bleeds into every interaction. The tension never dips — it coils tighter and tighter until you feel like you need to open a window.

“I’d know Ronan Croft anywhere, in any lighting, even in the inky blackness at the bottom of the sea. You never forget your first love. Especially when he’s also your worst nightmare.”

This is enemies-to-lovers with a beauty-and-the-beast undertone. He’s possessive. She’s guarded. They are both carrying scars. And when that passion collides with the darkness surrounding them?

“He’s always been the snake with the apple, and I’ve always been Eve.”

It’s explosive.

🕯️ The Atmosphere? Immaculate.

The world-building in this book is rich and cinematic.

The Blackthorn manor feels alive. Solstice feels haunted. There are whispers of curses, unexplained deaths of Blackthorn women, ancestral secrets, and a crumbling church hiding horrors I will not even begin to spoil.

Did I fully understand what was happening at all times?

Absolutely not.

Did I care?

Not even a little.

Because the ride was intoxicating.

🤯 When It Goes Off the Rails… In the Best Way

At about the halfway point, this story takes off like it has something to prove.

Twist after twist. Reality bending. Tension snapping.

The gaslighting theme is brilliantly executed. You feel Maven’s confusion. You question what’s real. You question motives. You question your own comprehension. You question the ending!

It’s disorienting. It’s bold. It’s intentional.

And it works.

🍂 The Perfect Moody Read

This is the ultimate spooky-season, storm-outside, candle-lit kind of book.

It’s dark. It’s seductive. It’s mysterious. It’s unpredictable.

And that ending?

I’m still not over it.

It was surreal. Fever-dream-ish. Wild. It left me sitting there stunned — and slightly feral — in the best way possible.

💋 Final Thoughts

You could not have ripped this book out of my hands before I reached the last page.

I was enthralled from the prologue to the epilogue.

Black Thorn is atmospheric, twisty, emotionally charged, and daring enough to completely destabilize you — and I adore a book that commits to the chaos.

Do I still have questions? Sure.

Do I want more from this world?

Without hesitation.
