My Review

✨ Sloane’s debut novel ✨

First of all… this was her first book?! Excuse me while I slow clap because ma’am came out swinging.

I went into this completely blind. Zero expectations. No spoilers. Just vibes. And I am so glad I did.

🖤 Birdie’s World Turns Upside Down

Birdie’s life unravels at her mother’s funeral—because apparently grief wasn’t enough. Decades of secrets come spilling out, and not cute little white lies either. We’re talking sinister, identity-shaking, everything-you-thought-you-knew-is-a-lie kind of secrets.

Her name? Questionable.
Her past? Dark.
Her future? Wide open and terrifying.

Watching her discover who she really is while navigating that trauma felt layered and emotional. There’s a plotline here I refuse to spoil, but let’s just say… I was floored. It gives Criminal Minds energy wrapped in hockey romance packaging, and I ate that up.

🔥 Enter Lonan Burke (Star Defenseman, Certified Swoon)

Lonan is Birdie’s newly discovered brother’s best friend… and her childhood crush.

We love inevitability in this house.

Now he’s a star defenseman for the Minnesota Lakes, fresh off his NHL draft glow-up, and very much not innocent anymore. What I loved about him? He isn’t just the cocky hockey guy. He’s steady. Protective. Intentional.

“I will love you forever,” he says against my lips. “Forever,” I promise. No matter the circumstances, we would always find each other. This love existed before I forgot, before I remembered, and before we came to be what we are in this moment.”

When the media storm hits and Birdie needs somewhere safe, he steps up. His cold, bachelor condo slowly turns into something warm and real. Their reconnection feels natural—like something that was always meant to circle back.

And yes… it’s very spicy. 🌶️🌶️🌶️

But here’s what surprised me: the spice is balanced beautifully with suspense and story. It doesn’t feel like heat just for the sake of it. It enhances the emotional stakes.

🧊 Hockey Romance… But Make It Dark

If you love hockey romance but also secretly binge crime thrillers? This is for you.

It’s not just locker rooms and one-night stands. It’s identity, danger, found family, and healing. The darker elements caught me off guard in the best way. It’s romantic, yes—but there’s an edge to it.

And honestly? I would have binged this in one sitting if adult responsibilities didn’t exist.

💋 The Spice Factor

Let’s not pretend we’re not here for this too.

“I want someone who will bang me like a screen door in a hurricane. Loud, hard, and often. Nothing too crazy, just passionate. I want to feel wanted by someone.”

It’s hot. It’s intense. It’s emotionally charged. But it never overshadows the story. The chemistry between Birdie and Lonan feels inevitable rather than rushed, and their connection rebuilding over time gave it depth.

💭 Final Thoughts

Is it perfect? No.

Was it addictive, emotional, and impressively strong for a debut? Absolutely.

This was such a solid start to the Lakes Hockey Series, and I already need the next book in my hands. Immediately. Yesterday, actually.

If you’re a good girl who likes her hockey heroes protective, her romance spicy, and her plotline dark enough to keep you guessing… just go in blind and have fun.

Trust me on this one. 🏒🔥

Now tell me—are we here for the hockey, the suspense, or Lonan Burke? Because I have feelings. 💋📚
